About Our Foundation

The focus of the San Juan Education Foundation (SJEF) is science, technology, arts, and reading for students. Although we work closely with the schools and district, we are a separate, community-based charitable entity. SJEF is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) corporation and donations made to it are tax deductible.

Our board is comprised of dedicated community, business and education leaders with the professional expertise, knowledge of our community’s resources, and creativity necessary for a fresh approach to achieving our mission.

Our Board is committed to the highest level of financial stewardship as we use our resources for maximum benefit directly to the schools and students we serve. The Foundation will identify and support programs in science, technology, arts, and reading through a process that funds Innovative Learning Grants.

Why We Need a Foundation

As a strong, high-achieving community, we are not satisfied with the status quo in our schools. We cannot depend on government funding alone to provide the high caliber educational opportunities our students need and we demand. We believe it is critically important to enrich the classroom experience and offer support to teachers who want to be creative, innovative and challenge students.

The goal of our Foundation’s grassroots support is to provide the catalyst for increasing numbers of teachers to innovate and improve the educational experience. Community investment in San Juan education benefits not only our students, but the community itself. As a district-wide foundation with a focus on science, technology, arts, and reading, the Foundation can leverage, target and maximize a large pool of resources, often from outside our San Juan community. This creates a greater impact compared to individual schools working alone.
