Strategic Plan 2012 - 2014

Executive Summary

SJEF has made a commitment to working collaboratively with the San Juan Unified School District (SJUSD) to empower teachers to help all students develop and apply 21st Century Skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and applications of technology. The Foundation is an independent, 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that provides grants directly to SJUSD teachers in grades K-12.

The mission of SJEF is to “support and advance excellent education for all students in the SJUSD through a partnership with parents, educators, business and the community focusing on science, technology, the arts, and reading.”

Through our strategic planning process, we hope to continue the Foundation’s capacity building while improving in the following four (4) key focus areas:

1. Fundraising

2. Board development

3. Building a strong volunteer base

4. Organizational awareness

We have selected these goals because they will enable the foundation to maximize its performance. We will achieve our goals by:

  • Engaging and empowering business and community leaders from diverse communities.
  • Engaging and empowering parents, students, alumni, and other interested stakeholders.
  • Increasing and diversifying funding at all levels (public and private foundation grants, contributions, in-kind donations, sponsorships, events, entrepreneurial activities, etc.)
  • Increasing awareness within the community, specifically with stakeholders, of the Foundation’s mission, vision, goals, and ways to assist and become involved.

The strategies we will use to reach our goals represent the choices we will make about how we will achieve them. For each goal, we have identified key initiatives that serve as result measures against which we can monitor our progress.
